In my current role with Morningstar’s Investment Management group, I’ve spearheaded multiple product and feature launches on our turnkey asset management platform to improve client experiences.
In the process, I’ve gained experience on both backend and frontend product development, building foundational technology solutions as well as decision support tools to help accelerate advisor growth.

The turnkey asset management platform offered by Morningstar has been replatformed over the past few years. My team’s focus has been to leverage or build new foundational software to support modernized architecture and provide more features and capabilities to our primary clients, Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs).
Prime among them is a solution my team is building to offer seamless user entitlements. With this solution, Morningstar Investment Management's operational and client support teams can onboard new clients and set up firm- and advisor-specific experiences to our platforms using an industry-leading CRM.
The main issue we were looking to solve: how do we offer personalized experiences for users depending on their firm’s relationship with us, whether it’s the type of investment strategies and fees they have access to or the specific site features and tools that should be available to them.
To address this problem, my team leveraged our CRM and built an API to deliver entitlement data to our downstream applications.
I was personally responsible to understand requirements for the API and work with my technology team to help construct the architecture design given our business use cases.

Morningstar has a wealth of proprietary data and research that can be extremely valuable for any investment decision. Advisors, who use our turnkey asset management platform to onboard clients and manage accounts, would benefit greatly by having this data and research readily available.
As a result, my team took up an initiative to implement and enhance decision support tools on our asset management platform. The goal was to address a gap we had around harnessing Morningstar data and research into our platform’s tools so that advisors can give effective, industry-leading advice to investors.
My team worked to directly address this gap by incorporating Morningstar’s portfolio analytics capabilities into our Investment Services tools. This included two parts: first, building a brand new UI for advisors to easily consume and review analytics for their clients’ accounts, and second, ensuring the solution is scalable so that the addition of new portfolio analytics data captured by Morningstar could be readily integrated with our account analytics tool.
We are continuing to work towards improving our reporting and decision support tools so that we can enable our advisors to empower investor success.
