Product Management
I have nearly 10 years of experience building and managing products, everything from defining product strategy and roadmap to hands-on solutioning with design and technology counterparts. I am confident managing and mitigating risks and issues, while maintaining progress in line with business objectives. At Morningstar, I've advocated for or have had a hand in nearly 30 initiatives, several of which I've personally led to determine service or product viability with customers, capture gaps and proficiencies of industry leaders, and conduct cost-benefit analysis to help make informed strategic decisions. However, what I enjoy most is being in the room with engineering and design counterparts solving problems, ensuring we're solving the right problem and identifying all the potential impacts of any solution. The work involved in gaining the understanding of existing user interactions and current system data flows and applying that knowledge to identify the best solution is the most rewarding aspect of the job.
People Management
As a synergist, I have a natural disposition for working across cross-functional teams. I command informal authority by demonstrating respect, listening to colleagues, clarifying visions and expectations, and being accountable by shouldering failures and sharing successes. At Morningstar, I manage a team of product owners providing support in their day-to-day activities as well as their career development journey. Aside from weekly check-ins and quarterly development discussions where I work with team members to set goals and run assessments on progress, I serve as an escalation point to help remove blockers and impediments to progress. More recently I was fortunate to take on a first-time product owner and coach him in the agile and software development process. In his first 6 months, the product owner was able to lead a successful third-party integration. I like to think that his success is at least in part a result of the trust and supportive environment I engender with my team members and a coaching style that relies more on providing guidance and tools than prescriptions or directives.
Project Management
I bring a high-level of EQ, energy, and perseverance to the table and enjoy the task of resolving and sometimes working around complexities and constraints. I place a high emphasis on organization and have a knack for resource allocation. In one of my previous positions with LeadBridge, I was able to reengineer processes and establish workflow metrics to track KPIs and boost business productivity, improving revenue performance by over 20% in just two years. In a more recent role with Morningstar as part of my scrum master responsibilities, I helped my product development squad increase velocity by over 15% by having the team adopt agile practices, emphasizing story review, clarifications of acceptance criteria, and the documentation of test cases for feature development.
Product Marketing
Over the course of my career, I’ve put in thousands of hours developing sales enablement content and positioning complex technology products on behalf of high-profile clients including Google, Oracle, VMware, Nutanix and more. Mastering the technical aspects of these solutions and using customer and market data, I’ve been able to generate elegant, effective value propositions to help experienced sales executives and marketing leaders address everyday business issues and speak to user pain points.
Interests
I'm interested in the intersection of people, culture, and technology and the network of transactions they create to drive new market trends. These days I spend most of my free time with my recently born son. I also enjoy playing basketball and tennis or riding bikes across nature trails with my wife. If I’m stuck inside, you’ll find me watching competitive sporting events, building on my coding experience or trying to learn new skills. I’m currently taking an AI Product Management course covering a wide range of topics including AI business management, machine learning models, and AI ethics. I've also been brushing up on SQL. I already have a good understanding of front-end web development and – fun fact – I made this website from scratch!
